Help Me Help Honduras

Dear Friend,

This past summer, I volunteered in Puerto El Morro, Ecuador for two weeks. This trip was an amazing experience changed my outlook on my life and the world. It allowed me to witness and experience the reality of poverty. Furthermore, my project increased my personal growth, propelled my passion for volunteering, and gave me insight for what I want to do with my future. I am currently in the process of applying to become a Peace Corps Volunteer.

In the meantime, on my campus, I discovered Students Helping Honduras (SHH), a non-profit organization founded by students that is fighting poverty, promoting sustainable development, and helping children in Honduras get an education.

This winter, I will to travel to El Progreso, Honduras and volunteer with SHH on one of their 8-day-service-trips. During the trip, I will be building classrooms for a school that is in need of aid. Many schools in Honduras operate in makeshift shacks made of rotting wood and tin, making it overcrowded and difficult for children to learn. This is another amazing opportunity for me, but I need your help. Since SHH is a non-profit organization, each volunteer must pay $750 to cover expenses involved with volunteering, such as transportation, lodging, food, security, and construction supplies. In addition, the flight to Honduras is about $555, which adds up to a total cost of about $1,305. This is where you come in.

If each of my friends and family contribute around $20, I will be able to reach my fundraising goal for the expedition. In this tough economy, if you cannot or do not wish to make a donation, I completely understand. However, I would greatly appreciate any and all support from you. Students Helping Honduras is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. Our tax ID number is 41-2191361. If you would like to make a tax-deductible donation mailed on or before December 10, please write a check out to Students Helping Honduras – James Madison University to the following address:
